Glamma Miko Visits JR2

Miyuki started working again on Monday, but Jameson can't start daycare at Mariners Church until after his four month birthday on March 23rd. So, "Glamma" Miko is staying with us for two weeks to babysit with Jameson for the next two weeks. After she goes back home, I will be babysitting and working from home for the final week before daycare as Mr. MOM!!

Here are the latest pictures of baby JR2 and his Glamma Miko...

President's Weekend at the Circle K Ranch

A few weeks ago, we had our second family trip this year to our Circle K Ranch in Texas. Miyuki, JR2 and I spent three days and nights working and relaxing at the Ranch with our contractor Bret, his assistant Donelle, Jameson's grandparents Janet and Ken and my best friend Leo.
Projects included: Cleaning up piles of branches I had pruned on our last trip - unfortunately the burn ban prevented us from setting them on fire!; painting the "Circle K" ornamental iron gate and red wagon wheels at the front of the main gate and around the house.; moving dirt from around the front of the house and replaced with landscaping stones to improve the appearance and water drainage; finally painting the tin roof with reflective, energy reducing roof coating.
After the hard work was done, Jameson and I enjoyed a bubble bath together and we had a few Ranch cocktails. As always, the BBQ, food and comraderie of family and friends was great. Mom and Dad came out for one night on Saturday; while Leo stayed a night on Sunday.

Bachelor's Ball 2009

Last Friday, we hired our first baby sitter (our good friend Cathy) for Jameson and headed up to Los Angeles for our second Bachelor's costume ball at the Beverly Hills Hilton. This year, our table chose a Scottish costume theme as a follow-up to our German costume theme last year.

We met our host and Jonathan Club friend Jeff Trainor at the famous Trader Vics bar at the hotel. Jeff brought his girlfriend and our friend Jennifer. Fellow Jonathan friends Allen and Arax Gross attended again. We had a wonderful time, but left about midnight for the drive back home for Jameson. Last year, we danced the night away until the early morning hours.

Momma's 36th BDay in Paso Robles

Last Friday, Miyuki and I packed up the whole famn damily on Friday morning and headed off to Paso Robles wine country north of San Luis Obispo, about 250 miles or 3 1/2 hours from Newport Coast.

We have started a family tradition of going wine tasting for Miyuki's birthday on or about January 18th or the MLK holiday. Last year, we camped out and toured the wineries in Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez. This year, we headed to Paso Robles for the first time.

We spent three nights and three days in PR touring local wineries and had a great time. Even Odie got to hang out inside most wineries that were more dog friendly than Napa or Santa Ynez.

Here are the pictures from our wine tours...

Jameson's First Trip to the Ranch

On the first day of the New Year 2009, we woke up early, packed up the dog and baby and headed off to the Circle K Ranch in Nickel, Texas. According to Texas law, we had to be living in the Ranch as our "primary residence on January 1st" to qualify for Homestead.

When we arrived, our contractor and friend Bret Steiger was already there with another worker named Donnelle (sic?). Later that evening, Kendra showed up with her fiancee William, Jameson's cousins Meagan, Jacob, three teenaged friends, two big dogs and a large bag of fireworks! We were soon up on the large balcony shooting off sparklers, roman candles and other types of rockets.

We talked the kids into a "snipe" hunt far off in the dark woods - without a flashlight. Unfortunately, no snipes this time - probably too close to the house. Next time, we'll take them out into the wilderness in the truck and leave them out there to find some snipes.

Bret and Donelle installed all of the new GE stainless steel kitchen appliances, completed the downstairs bathroom and kitchen counters and had laid and grouted about a quarter of the slate flagstones that we are laying for the downstairs flooring. The kitchen and flooring look great! They also spend several days doing the beveling and detail work on the kitchen cabinet faces.

After a few days spent with Kendra and her family, they left and my Mom and Dad arrived to meet their new grandson. We had a wonderful time with Ken and Janet as well. My mom helped me install the new Texas flag mail box and my dad helped me prune the oak branches.

Jameson had a ball being fussed over and passed around the house. Mom enjoyed relaxing. We are looking forward to the next trip our to the Ranch, hopefully in Febuary or March.

Vide Cor Meum

We are watching Riddley Scott's Hannibal which includes one of the most beautiful opera songs that I have ever heard, Vide Cor Meum or "See my heart" which was composed for the film:

Vide Cor Meum is a song composed by Patrick Cassidy based on Dante's "La Vita Nuova", specifically on the sonnet "A ciascun'alma presa", in chapter 3 of the Vita Nuova. The song was produced by Patrick Cassidy and Hans Zimmer and was performed by Libera / Lyndhurst Orchestrathe, conducted by Gavin Greenaway. Singers are Danielle de Niese and Bruno Lazzaretti, who play Beatrice and Dante, respectively.

The song first appeared in the movie Hannibal, while Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Inspector Pazzi see an outdoor opera in Florence, and was especially composed for the movie. This aria was chosen to be performed at the Oscars in 2002 during the presentation of a lifetime achievement award to producer Dino De Laurentiis and at the 53rd Annual Emmy awards.
It was used later in Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, during King Baldwin IV's funeral.

Chorus: E pensando di lei
Mi sopragiunse uno soave sonno
Ego dominus tuus
Vide cor tuum
E d'esto core ardendo
Cor tuum
(Chorus: Lei paventosa)
Umilmente pascea.
Appreso gir lo ne vedea piangendo.
La letizia si convertia
In amarissimo pianto
Io sono in pace
Cor meum
Io sono in pace
Vide cor meum

Chorus: And thinking of her
Sweet sleep overcame me
I am your master
See your heart
And of this burning heart
Your heart
(Chorus: She's trembling)
Humbly consumes.
Weeping, I saw him then depart from me.
Joy is converted
To bitterest tears
I am in peace
My heart
I am in peace
See my heart
